"Oh, come on, can't I just walk there?"

"What do you have against a hundred free XP?" asked Teto, looking up in surprise.

"Whenever I get a quest, the simplest thing gets complicated," Ben sulked and turned into the aforementioned alley.

"Iron armor, fire glow, paralysis," Ben muttered. In quick succession, first the image of armor lit up around him, then his dagger and finally the tip of his left hand, which was just waiting to paralyze an opponent.

"You're exaggerating," Teto reprimanded.

"We'll see about that."

Ben quickened his pace, using stealth to advance undetected. He hid in the shadows of the doorways from time to time and watched carefully to see if he was being followed.

"There's no one there," said Teto. "You're making a mountain out of a molehill."

"Shh …" Suddenly, three figures stepped out of the entrance in front of him, two behind him. The wide cloaks hid their shape so that it was impossible to tell what species they belonged to. "So much for that," Ben grumbled grimly, gripping his dagger tighter.

"Good call. Just leave your short sword in its sheath, you can't handle that thing yet," warned Teto.

"I know, shut up now. Aura of despair," Ben muttered with the dagger in his hand. His pupils widened, seeming to fill the entirety of his eyes, the iris and whites turning jet black. The masked figures backed away from him, turned on their heels and ran off. "What do I need my combat skills for," Ben laughed, just as a hard blow hit him from behind.

The system kindly informed him that he had lost forty-five hitpoints. Ben whirled around as a masked figure attempted to stab him once again with its drawn knife. Ben hastily backed away, slicing his opponent's arm in the process. Snarling, he put distance between them with a leap. Pale pink eyes sparkled from between a narrow strip of cloth, otherwise the head was completely covered.

"What do you want?" Ben asked. He stood crouched low and held the dagger threateningly in front of him.

The figure attacked again, dodging Ben's thrust and catching him in the upper arm.
